Father's Day is celebrated every June.

Father's Day will be celebrated on June 16 th.  Every year on the third Sunday of June Father's Day is celebrated across the country. It is a day to celebrate fathers and the crucial role they play in their families lives.

I lost my father shortly after graduation high school. My father was a man of few words, but he had the look.  You know, the look you would get when you were out of line. If you were misbehaving in church you usually thump in the back of the head.  My father had his moments went he was fun to be around, and of course other times, not so much.  He often took me with him when he had to go out of town for work.  Most of the time it was more for company than anything else. As  I got older we began to drift apart.  There was a lot I wanted to know about is past but he was not forthcoming with any information.  Of course I went through the rebellious years, always pushing the envelope as much as I could.  I thought I knew more than anybody, when in reality I knew nothing.  I wished over and over again, I could have had meaningful conversations with him, and learned from him, but we were never able to reach that point in our lives.  I tried to get close to him when he became sick, but time had run out.  The most I could do for him was to take him to his doctors appointments and assist in funeral arrangements.

I know I’m not the only one who have similar experiences.  I just wish I could have…...fill in the blanks.

I also know there on many readers who have had similar experiences and, I also know, you not might have known your father.  Or maybe your father was there, but not there for you.  When I became a father, I tried to do the right things, but often I failed.  Fortunately over the years my daughter and I have made amends, even thought I don’t understand why she does the things she does, I just shake my head and walk away.

Psalm 68:5 says, “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” Of all the ways the Lord God Almighty could have chosen to relate to humanity, He chose the language of family. He could have described Himself as a benevolent dictator, kind boss, or patient landlord. But instead, He chose the word father.

He presents Himself as a Father because we all know what a father is and does. Even if we did not have earthly fathers who treated us well, we have an intrinsic understanding of what a good father should be. God planted that understanding in our hearts. We all have a need to be loved, cherished, protected, and valued. Ideally, an earthly father will meet those needs. But even if he doesn’t, God will. Jesus taught His followers to address God as Father (Luke 11:2).

So were do we go from here. Being a great father and husband involves being present and actively involved in your family's life. This means spending quality time with your children, listening to their needs and concerns, and providing them with love and support. As a husband, it's important to communicate openly with your partner, show appreciation for their efforts, and work together to overcome challenges. Being a good father and husband also means being a role model for your family, demonstrating respect, kindness, and responsibility in all aspects of your life. By prioritizing your family's well-being and fostering a strong, loving relationship, you can truly excel in your roles as a father and husband.

When it comes to demonstrating respect and love towards your spouse in front of your children, it is important to set a positive example for them to follow. This can include showing affection, communicating openly and respectfully, and working together as a team. By treating your wife with kindness and consideration in front of your children, you are not only fostering a healthy relationship with your spouse but also teaching your children valuable lessons about love, respect, and communication in relationships. Remember, children learn by observing, so make sure to demonstrate the kind of behavior you want them to emulate in their own relationships in the future.

So on this Fathers day have a great day. If you haven’t spoken to your dad in a while, give him a call or visit him if at all possible.
